It was the biggest day yet for the Ladbrokes European Online Championship of Poker, with over 500 players getting in on Event 4: Ladies Championship and Event 5: Beat the Team.
Event 5 had a unique format that saw bonuses awarded to players who managed to knock out one of the members of Ladbrokes' professional poker team. It was perhaps the intriguing format that brought out the highest number of players - 499 - for a LEOCOP IV event thus far.
There were plenty of Ladbrokes pros available to bust: Jon "skalie" Kalmar, Jeff "JaffaCake" Kimber, Jonas "Nebuchad" Danielsson, Andreas "Theah" Hoivold, Colin "Jaws180" Lloyd and a few others happily acted as cannon fodder for the rest of the field.
"The Beat the Team event has been the most heavily subscribed of the festival so far but we knew it would be popular," said Ladbrokes Poker MD Edward Ihre. "We all had a laugh and some good banter on the tables and the event epitomized what Ladbrokespoker.com is all about."
The first pro to be eliminated was 2007 WSOP Main Event final finisher Kalmar. Kalmar was pushed out of the tournament when PUSH73 managed to bust him for a prize of $200.
Scandinavian Online Player of the Year Danielsson was busted fifth out of the pros by eliman for a profit of $650.
Dart player Lloyd outlasted all the poker pros before eventually falling to online player Acid for a bonus of $3,000.
"This tournament is brilliant value and great fun," said Ihre. "It has to be said that the surprise of the night was both dart players Colin 'jaws180' Lloyd and PDC World Champion John Part outlasting the majority of the pros."
Russian online player eliman would go onto to win the whole tournament by beating GreenMan1 in heads-up play. eliman received $6,710 for coming in first while GreenMan1 had to settle for the $4,294 that came with second.
