The New Year will bring another poker tour into the world as Vega Promotional Systems Inc. plans to launch the Latin American Poker Tour in 2008.

The inaugural LAPT season will include tournaments in eight Latin American countries: Puerto Rico, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela, Dominican Republic and Costa Rica.

The season will cap off with a Tournament of Champions to crown the top player in Latin America.

Michael Herron, Vega CEO, said interest in Texas Hold'em has risen in Latin America, making it ready for this type of tour.

"We've all seen the success that other tours like the World Poker Tour and European Poker Tour have enjoyed, and we feel that by utilizing our existing contacts in Latin America, we can produce a first class tournament that players from all over the world, not just from Latin America, will want to participate in," Herron said.

The tournaments will be structured as invitational events with players worldwide able to win seats via online and live local satellite tournaments. Vega is currently negotiating with various professional poker players to host the tour as well.

The company plans to produce and record each tournament for televised airing throughout Latin America. According to a press release, Vega will own the programming and is currently negotiating for airtime with a major cable provider that would allow the company to sell its own advertising for the programs.

"Unlike a lot of poker programming you see on television, we are not attempting to sell the rights to a programmer. We will own the programming and will contract for the necessary time slots to air the one-hour shows," Herron said. "This will allow Vega to profit from the advertising, sponsorships and replays for the programs."

Vega Promotional Systems, Inc. is a marketing company that seeks complementary business opportunities that will allow it to increase its shareholder value.

The company will announce more details of the LAPT as they become available.
