Last week for Irish tournament seats at PartyPoker

Poker Table

Galway is the place to be in early January for the Irish Poker Championship, and this weekend will be the last shot players at PartyPoker have at winning a seat in the event online.

The main $240 weekly satellite to the event has been moved from Tuesday to Sunday, Dec. 23, giving players more time to get in on the event. A seat will be given away for every 25 players who enter the event.

For those players who don't want to spend the $240 up front to enter the satellite, there are qualifying tournaments starting up for as little as $3 to enter and win a spot in the satellite. These qualifiers are running every day of the week.

The prize package to the Irish Poker Championship will be worth $3,000 and includes:

  • $2,800 tournament buy-in
  • $1,000 spending money
  • Accommodation in a luxury hotel
  • $200 airport transfer costs

"Marcel Luske, Jon Kalmar and Robert Williamson III have recently booked their tickets for Galway and are expected to be amongst the favorites for the title," said a PartyPoker spokesperson.

"One PartyPoker.com qualifier to watch out for is 22-year-old James McManus from Dublin. In a period of two months earlier this year, he went on a great run online winning a Mini Cooper S, a Nintendo Wii and $52,000 on the bad beat jackpot."

The spokesperson also said there seems to be a pattern emerging to the tournament.

"It looks like the competitors will be split into three distinct camps," he said. "There will be a big group of local Irish players, the international online qualifiers and a good group of overseas pros."

Other pros who've indicated they plan to attend are Ciaran O'Leary, Michael Keiner, Padraig Parkinson, Bruno Fitoussi, Jan Sorensen, Roy Brindley, Steve Wong and more.

The tournament is scheduled for Jan. 4-6 at the Radisson Hotel & Spa in Galway, Ireland. It will be recorded for six, hour-long broadcasts on RTE, Ireland's national broadcaster, and distributed internationally.
