Las Vegas sees September casino revenues fall

By Sarah Polson

The Nevada Gaming Control Board released information Thursday indicating that despite a $985 million win in the state's casinos for the month of September, revenue had actually fallen 2.7% from the same period in 2005.

The decline was only the second monthly decline for Nevada casinos in close to two years.

The Las Vegas Strip itself was down 4.3% for the month bringing in revenue of $516.4 million. A senior research analyst from the Gaming Control Board said that a boxing match and Mariah Carey concert helped draw in people, but part of the decline was because a men's clothing trade show was moved to August instead of its usual September dates.

Another change that may have affected the total revenue is changes to slot machine accounting. Club revenues were also down in Las Vegas, and casino revenues were down in other parts of Nevada such as Reno and Lake Tahoe.

Analysts did note, however, that revenues were still up for the third quarter that ended Sept. 30 despite the decline during the month.
