LAPT begins second season in Costa Rica
The PokerStars Latin American Poker Tour had a very successful first year, and organizers are hoping to keep the momentum going as Season 2 starts up in San Jose, Costa Rica in November with a $1 million guaranteed prize pool.
The first event of the second season is scheduled to take place at the Ramada Plaza, Herradura Conference Centre in San Jose Nov. 3-5. Along with a new season comes a change or two as well.
This time around the LAPT is boosting the buy-ins up to $3,700 for each stop, and then the championship event at the end of the season will have a $5,200 buy-in.
Last year, the San Jose tournament brought in a field of 398 players, many of whom won their way into the tournament via qualifiers on PokerStars. One of those qualifiers was Valdemar Kwaysser, who ended up winning the event to take home a $274,103 top prize.
The winner this time around can look forward to an even bigger payout with the $1 million guaranteed prize pool that is nearly $35,000 more than the pool created in last year's event.
"PokerStars LAPT Season 1 was defined by ground-breaking debut success," said Glenn Cademartori, LAPT president. "We were so overwhelmed with the success of LAPT Season 1 that we wanted to come back with Season 2 straight away, moving it into the high-season for Latin American tourism."
The first season attracted more than a thousand players over three events. This time around the tour has added three more stops, taking the tour to six different countries - Costa Rica, Mexico, Chile, Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina - during a prime travel time in the region.
"It will be the best time for Latin Americans, as well as North Americans, Europeans and players from across the globe to travel to these exotic destinations for live, high-stakes, championship poker," Cademartori said.
"We are quickly doubling the size of the LAPT by adding Mexico, Chile and Argentina to the schedule. Players have a lot to look forward to in Season 2, which will run from November to April - six countries in six months."
Poker players at PokerStars will have several opportunities to hit the tournament trail with the LAPT. The poker site is offering prize packages to the different events that include a main event buy-in, four nights' hotel accommodation and money for expenses.
