LAPC events dish out $10k seats

Commerce Casino

The L.A. Poker Classic gets off to another round of tournaments Jan. 22 through March 2, and this time around the Commerce Casino will be offering players an extra bonus.

Players who win six select tournaments during the six-week-long LAPC will also win a seat in a $10,000 championship tournament of their choice. The seats will go to the winners in the No-Limit Hold'em events scheduled for Feb. 12 through Feb. 16 and the H.O.R.S.E. event scheduled for Feb. 11.

This year the Commerce is hosting three new $10,000 Championship events to its LAPC in addition to the usual $10,000 Hold'em Championship, giving players who win a seat plenty of choices to use it on.

The added tournaments are a $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha event, $10,000 H.O.R.S.E. event and a $10,000 Heads-Up event.

"These $10,000 seats spice up the tournament action," said LAPC Tournament Director Matt Savage. "They give anyone a shot at getting into a $10,000 Championship tournament for the price of a buy-in as low as $291. If you think you have the ability to make it on the world poker stage, but not the bankroll, here's a perfect way in the door."

The fourth choice for players is the $10,000 No-Limit Hold'em event, which is a World Poker Tour televised event. The Hold'em championship is expected to draw more than 600 players from all over the world and have a $6 million prize pool.

In 2008 the LAPC handed out nearly $13 million to those players among the 10,000 participants who made the money in nearly 30 events.

This time the LAPC will feature 35 events, including the four $10,000 championship ones. Some of the other highlights will include a $200,000 guaranteed event, a $300,000 guaranteed Limit Hold'em event and a $250,000 guaranteed No-Limit Hold'em with rebuys event.

People interested in participating in the LAPC can buy in directly, or play their way in via satellites the Commerce Casino will be hosting for all the events.
