Ladbrokes Irish Poker Festival set for TV

Roy Brindley

Ladbrokes Poker announced last week that its €250,000 guaranteed Irish Poker Festival will be filmed for a documentary. The festival will take place in Killarney, Ireland, Oct. 2-5.

The documentary will follow the €550 buy-in European ranking event. It is planned to be broadcast on Irish terrestrial TV station TG4 and for subsequent distribution to networks around the world. Ladbrokes Poker will also offer a Web stream of the documentary.

"Terrestrial television coverage for this event is excellent news, it is just one more reason hoards of poker players will descend on one of Ireland's most beautiful regions in October," said Roy "The Boy Brindley, a Ladbrokes Poker sponsored professional player.

"This will be a blend of fun and, with huge money plus European ranking points on offer, some very serious poker playing."

The Irish Poker Festival is expected to attract more than 600 players from around Europe. Along with the €550 main event running Oct. 3-5, the festival will also include a €300 No-Limit Hold'em Freezeout on Oct. 4 and a €170 No-Limit Freezeout on Oct. 5.

Players can qualify for the main event each Monday at 7:30 p.m. GMT at Ladbrokes Poker. The weekly satellite finals have a $137.50 buy-in and offer one prize package for the event for every $1,250 in the prize pool.

The packages include the buy-in for the main event plus two nights stay for two people at the Gleneagle Hotel where the tournament is being hosted.

The online poker site is also hosting super-satellites for as little as $5 that will get players into the daily finals. The daily finals have a direct buy-in of $33 and take place Tuesday through Sunday at 7:30 p.m. GMT. Players will move on to the weekly final from there.

Even if a player doesn't manage to secure a seat through a satellite at Ladbrokes Poker, they can still use the site to register for the main event. The poker site is offering 24/7 registration for the main event in the MTT section of its lobby.
