L.A. Avengers host charity poker tournament

By Sarah Polson

The L.A. Avengers took their game to a whole other arena on Sunday to raise money for charity. The arena football team hosted a poker tournament to raise money for PADRES Cantra El Cancer, parents against cancer.

More than 100 poker players showed up for the Texas Hold'em event to show their support for the charity and to play for the grand prize, an all-expense paid trip for two to Las Vegas to see the Avengers play the Las Vegas Gladiators in May.

The event had a $100 buy-in which included the tournament, lunch and drink tickets. There was also a re-buy option for the poker tournament.

Along with the Avengers players, Eva Longoria, from Desparate Housewives, came out to play as well. She is the national spokesperson for PADRES.

Andrea Iturbe was the winner of the event, taking home the grand prize, while PADRES took home more than $10,000 in donations.

PADRES is a non-profit organization, founded in 1985, that is committed to improving the quality of life for Latino children with cancer and their families.
