Kido Pham wins Nguyen Challenge

Kido Pham, who already has three World Poker Tour final-table finishes, can now add champion to that list. He took down the main event of the Scotty Nguyen Challenge last week to earn the title.

Although the playing field was fairly small, consisting of 91 players, the Scotty Nguyen Challenge did pull in quite a few poker stars to its main event, making it a difficult one for Kido Pham to wade through.

Some of the pros who competed were Men "The Master" Nguyen, Todd Brunson, Mike Matusow, Tony Cousineau, Clonie Gowen and others.

The tournament took two days to play down to a final, televised table of six players: Pham, Nam Le, Cousineau, Mike Cordell, Terry Moore and Ramiro Garcia.

When the final table began, Pham had the chip lead with around half the chips on the table. Le, who won the event last year and was looking to repeat, was closest to him in chips.

Pham's lead was just too much for the players to overcome, though, and he earned himself a gold bracelet and the $176,359 top prize.

"The events were well organized, game structures were perfect and all the players were especially well treated," Pham said. "Next time this tournament will be even bigger than this record-setting year."
