Julius Reigns on Day 3 of WPT Five Diamond

Two big hands were all Kyle Julius needed to grab the chip lead heading into Day 4 at the WPT Five Diamond Classic in Las Vegas.

The first, the largest pot of the tournament so far, came in the middle of the day when he won a huge race with queens against Alexandre Debus' AK for a million-chip pot.

The last was a 500k pot against Kevin Saul in the second-to-last hand of the night when his top set beat Saul’s two pair.

Add the two up and Julius will lead the 49 players returning to action on Day 4 tomorrow with 1.4 million in chips – just slightly ahead of former November Niner Soi Nguyen at 1.38 million.

Julius, who plays online under the alias “KJulius10,” has over $1 million in online earnings but will be looking to top his biggest live cash of $65k set last year in a Venetian Deep Stack event.

Defending champ Antonio Esfandiari is also clearly in his comfort zone in the Bellagio.

Playing on his birthday, Esfandiari cruised through another day at the front of the pack and sits in third with 805,000 chips heading into tomorrow.

Other notables still in the stacked field include Scott Clements (563,500), Andrew “LuckyChewy” Lichtenberger (530,500), Matt Glantz (505,000), Vanessa Selbst (414,000), Matt “ADZ124” Marafioti (336,500), David Williams (305,000), Allen Cunningham (290,500), Dwyte Pilgrim (252,000) and William Reynolds (248,500).

Last of the 49 returning players is Allen Kessler, one-time chip leader on Day 1, who's now short-stacked with just under 10 BBs.

Some Made Money, Some Didn't

Notable bustouts in the money today included Andrew Robl (who final tabled this event last year), Eric Buchman, Eric Baldwin, Carlos Mortenson, Shaun Deeb, Isaac Baron and Will Failla.

Bustouts just outside the money included Jason Mercier, Annette Obrestad, Doyle Brunson, Phil Hellmuth and Eli Elezra.

The final 49 players will return at 12 pm tomorrow for five more levels.  First-place finisher in this event will take home $821,612 while the runner-up will earn $517,478.
