Julian Verse wins FTOPS X main event

chips and cards

By Sarah Polson

One of the biggest bargains for tournament players last week was the main event of the Full Tilt Online Poker Series X on Sunday. The $500+$35 buy-in got players a shot at a guaranteed $2.5 million prize pool to wrap up the series on Full Tilt Poker.

The guarantee turned out to be a big draw as 5,225 players took to the virtual felt for the event hosted by Scott Montgomery. Montgomery is coming off a fifth-place finish in the 2008 World Series of Poker Main Event, but he wasn't able to channel that success into a cash in the FTOPS X main event.

Instead, the 738 players who cashed included Josh Arieh, Eddy Scharf, PearlJammed, dmmikkel, Steve Zolotow, Huck Seed, Michael Craig, Nordberg and more. The big winner, however, was Julian Verse.

Julian Verse picked up $450,708.50 from the $2,612,500 prize pool and tied for 28th place on the FTOPS X leaderboard.

The final-table results for the main event were:

Place Name Prize
1st Julian Verse $450,708.50
2nd sckilla $273,006.50
3rd Hummelhintern $175,560
4th ilovepoka $137,156.25
5th bazeman $103,193.75
6th Kraag $77,068.75
7th sinrake $60,087.50
8th RollinHand1 $45,718.75
9th sd bum $33,962.50

That's not the only winners list we have to report this time around. There were also winners in events Friday, Saturday and another event on Sunday, so settle in and check out who else was walking away with money at Full Tilt Poker the last few days of the FTOPS X.

Event 19: $200+$16 No-Limit Hold'em

Scott Montgomery wasn't the only 2008 WSOP Main Event finalist to host an FTOPS X event. Kelly Kim took on this No-Limit Hold'em event with a $400,000 guarantee on Friday.

The 2,526 players who showed up for the event boosted the prize pool up over $500,000, leaving a tidy sum of $102,555.60 for the winner.

Among the 279 players who cashed were Brandon Adams, Brad Booth, Stuart Paterson and Barney Boatman. None of them made the final table, however, and it was EndlessAmbition who claimed the $100k+ top prize.

The final-table results were:

Place Name Prize
1st EndlessAmbition $102,555.60
2nd FantaKorn $66,181.20

Event 20: $200+$16 Stud Eight-or-Better

Perry Friedman stepped up to host on Friday as well, leading the charge in the $200+$16 Stud Eight-or-Better event. The event had a $100,000 guaranteed prize pool, and the 581 players who showed up looking for a piece of that helped make it $102,400.

Among the 56 players who made it into the money was Keith Sexton in 26th place, but the player who earned the biggest part of the prize pool was blackjack9.

The final-table results were:

Place Name Prize

Blackjack9's win also helped put him high on the FTOPS X leaderboard. When all the events were tallied, blackjack9 was in third place.

Event 21: $500+$35 No-Limit Hold'em Heads-Up

Huck Seed cashed fairly regularly in the FTOPS X events, and Saturday was his turn to host an event as well. It turns out the event he was hosting was one he couldn't manage to cash in.

The only Full Tilt Poker pro who made it into the money was Aaron Bartley. The best player out of the 897 players looking for a piece of the $500,000 guaranteed prize pool was DuckU.

DuckU won $87,000 for first place. The top eight players from the event were:

Place Name Prize
1st DuckU $87,000
2nd mendieta19 $52,000
3rd PLAYMONEYPRO $26,500
4th JBlaze20 $26,500
5th DayDough $14,000
6th masjo93 $14,000
7th blackjack9 $14,000
8th molgul $14,000

DuckU also finished the FTOPS X series in eighth place on the leaderboard.

Event 22: $5,000+$200 No-Limit Hold'em Six-Max

Craig Marquis was the unlucky first player out of the 2008 WSOP Main Event final table, but he still earned a hosting gig for the FTOPS X. Marquis took on the $2 million guaranteed two-day event on Saturday.

Players had to post up $5,000+$200 to play, and 500 people were more than willing to pay that for a shot at the prize pool. When registration had closed, they were actually looking at a $2.5 million prize pool for their two days of poker play.

Marquis made a pretty good run at that money himself, busting in 24th place for a $17,500 cash. Other pros in the money were Kristy Gazes and David Pham. Brandon Adams went the deepest of the pros, getting booted just outside the final table in sixth place.

The winner was amak316, who received $550,000 for first place. The final-table results were:

Place Name Prize
1st amak316 $550,000
2nd KaKeTKa $362,500

4th Buster Love $195,000
5th NEONPILS99 $137,500
6th dpowell $90,000

With the win, amak316 becomes another player sharing the 28th-place spot on the FTOPS X leaderboard.

Event 23: $100+$9 Pot-Limit Omaha with Rebuys

Dario Alioto took the lead for the third event taking place on Saturday. With a $400,000 guarantee on the line, 962 players were more than happy to follow him into action in the $100+$9 Pot-Limit Omaha event.

The two pros who made the money were Stuart Paterson and German pro Sandra Naujoks. Naujoks placed the highest, busting in 16th place.

Antoshka turned out to be the big winner in the event, however. Coming in first place, Antoshka picked up $92,000 and also shares 28th place on the FTOPS X leaderboard.

The final table played out as follows:

Place Name Prize
1st Antoshka $92,000
2nd MissOldy $58,000
3rd deerchaser21 $43,000
4th LuckyKuzmich $33,000

6th CrazyMarco $18,000
7th JMan772 $12,000
8th Pillage Bik $9,360
9th Cre8ive $6,800

Cre8ive has had a good FTOPS X series as well. With a final-table cash in this event, he ended up finishing up the FTOPS X series in second place on the leaderboard.

Event 24: $120+$9 No-Limit Hold'em Knockout

The final event before the main event on Sunday was a No-Limit Hold'em Knockout hosted by Erich Kollman. The event had a $500,000 guarantee and drew in 7,000 players.

That meant a $700,000 prize pool with more than $130,000 left for the winner of the event.

The payouts stretched to the top 720 players, two of whom were Sandra Naujoks and Josh Arieh. Arieh actually made a really good run in the event, cashing for $630 in 93rd place.

The winner, and yet another player to share 28th place on the FTOPS X leaderboard, was slaskovic. The final-table results were:

Place Name Prize
