Josephy, Obst Close in on WSOP Main Event Final Table as 27 Remain
Poker pros Cliff Josephy, James Obst and Kenny Hallaert are in the top 10 chip counts as the 2016 WSOP Main Event final table is just one day away from being set.
The Czech Republic’s Vojtech Ruzicka snatched the overnight chip lead with a late rush on Day 6 that put him at 26,415,000 chips to end the night with just 27 players remaining.
Relatively unknown New Jersey poker player Michael Ruane is second with 24m chips.
Josephy, known as JohnnyBax for staking numerous online poker pros, is in third with 23m. Online savant James “AndyMcLEOD” Obst is close behind Josephy with 19 million.
Hallaert, Marchese, Benger Survive
Belgian pro Kenny Hallaert has had a very strong Main Event and he still has a shot at making the final table as he finished with 15.4 million chips.
Tom Marchese (15.4 million), Josh Wiess (11.5 million), Jared Bleznick (8.3 million), Griffin Benger (6.5 million) and Antoine Saout (5.5 million) also survived the day.
Day 6 began with 80 players, meaning 53 players made their way to the rail.
Canadian Michael Niwinski, who is playing his first WSOP event ever, finished the night with 10 million chips.
Former Big One for One Drop winner Dan Colman was one of the players who hit the rail finishing in 31st place for $216,211.
Jason Les (40th), Chris Klodnicki (45th), Jan Suchanek (49th), Tony Gregg (50th), Tom Middleton (56th) and Jonathan Karamalikis (76th) were also among the players to bust on Day 6.
With 27 left, every player has locked up at least $338k for their efforts in the Main Event.
Action is set to resume tomorrow at 12:00 p.m. and will continue until a final table of nine players is set. At that point play will be paused for three and a half months before resuming for the November Nine.
