Johnny World big man on campus
John Hennigan's latest tournament win won't raise his profile and the winnings do nothing for his bankroll, but that's not the reason the poker pro turned out for the Associated Students of Loyola Marymount University in L.A. last week.
"Johnny World" took down the tournament April 12 to win all of $200, which he promptly handed over to the dealer.
The rest of the money raised - $1,500 - is destined for The Epilepsy Foundation.
Also in attendance was pro Kristy Gazes who, despite being up against a final table filled mostly with amateur players from the university, was first to bust in the event.
Gazes agreed to play in the tournament after sending the student council's president to the rail at this year's Aussie Millions.
Three campus-wide tournaments were held April 9-11 for a chance to win $1,000 in cash and play against Gazes and Hennigan. Five finalists from the satellites won their entries to the poker showdown April 12 The final table was filled out with the student president, the editor of the campus paper and a representative from the university's administration.
The week of charity poker on campus drew more than 250 students.
