Jennifer Tilly sets poker in a tizzy

By: Lianne Elias

Jennifer Tilly set the record straight at the 2005 World Series of Poker (WSOP) on Monday, June 27, and showed the poker world she isn't "just some actress" dabbling in the profession of her poker star boyfriend, Phil Laak. Beating out 600 female players in the $1,000 No-Limit Hold'em Ladies event, she took home first place, added a healthy $158,335 to her bankroll, and collected her first WSOP gold bracelet.

Already in possession of a lengthy resume full of diverse titles, including "The Bride of Chucky," the "Liar, Liar" star will now also be known as the winner of the 2005 Ladies World Poker Championship. Her victory marks the first time a Hollywood celebrity has won a poker "Oscar," which makes Ms. Tilly's accomplishment all the more interesting and significant.

The $1,000 No-Limit Hold'em Ladies event had triple the amount of participants than in 2004 and lasted two full days.
