Jeff Madsen shooting star in San Jose

Jeff Madsen

Jeff Madsen was the shooting star of the 2006 World Series of Poker (WSOP), and now he is doing well in the Bay 101 Shooting Star World Poker Tour (WPT) event in San Jose. Madsen ended Day 1b of the tournament in third place with $175,000 in chips.

A 21-year-old Madsen took the 2006 WSOP by storm when he won two events, reached two more final tables and won a total of $1,467,852 in prize money.

The youngest ever WSOP winner is, however, yet to cash in a WPT event, but Madsen certainly has a chance at the Bay 101 Shooting Star. On Day 1b of the tournament, only Clint Baskin and Tim Foster managed to build larger stacks than Jeff Madsen.

Day 1b leader Clint Baskin sits with $201,000 in chips, while Tim Foster in second place has $176,000 and Madsen rounds out third with $175,000.

Other big names still in contention include Ted Forrest, Erik Seidel, Lee Markholt, James Van Alstyne, Isabelle Mercier, Barry Greenstein, Johnny Chan, Patrik Antonius, Hans "Tuna" Lund and Tim Phan.

Of course, a number of star players were eliminated as well. T.J. Cloutier, Mike Matusow, Evelyn Ng, Phil Laak and Jennifer Tilly are some of those who busted out of the tournament on Day 1b.

The WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star continues with Day 2 at noon (PDT), and PokerListings.com will be there to bring you all the action. You can find the latest live updates, exclusive interviews, and blogs in our Live Tournaments Section.
