Isaac Baron wins first event of FTOPS VIII

Isaac Baron made good use of his chips during Event 1 of the FTOPS VIII.
By Sarah Polson
Many top players from the online and offline poker worlds showed up to take on the first event of the Full Tilt Online Poker Series VIII Wednesday evening, and the big winner of the evening was Isaac "the guru 11" Baron.
With 4,158 players registering for the $200+$16 No-Limit Hold'em six-max event, the prize pool topped its $750,000 guarantee to reach $831,600. That meant a $158,800 payday for Isaac Baron.
The event was hosted by WPT World Championship winner David Chiu, but he hit the rail early on, missing out on the cash. The highest-placing pro was Team Full Tilt member Scott Fischman, who busted in 18th place.
In the end it came down to Baron versus dan_dada, with dan_dada holding the chip advantage.
Baraon has plenty of experience making final tables both online and in the live-tournament realm. He has won a Sunday Million and a $215 rebuy at PokerStars plus a $750,000 Guaranteed and a Sunday Mulligan at Full Tilt Poker.
The 20-year-old has also traveled to Europe for some European Poker Tour events and a World Poker Tour event. He made the final table of the EPT Season 4 Grand Final and placed 11th at the San Remo event. At the WPT Turks & Caicos Poker Classic he made it to ninth place.
All the poker experience came in handy as he went to work Wednesday night chipping away at dan_dada's lead.
It finally came down to a hand where Baron had raised it up to $600,000 pre-flop and dan_dada called. After seeing a flop of 8-T-A with two diamonds, both players got their chips in the middle.
Baron was holding pocket queens and dan_dada was working on a flush draw with his 3-6 of diamonds. The turn brought a three of hearts, giving dan_dada a few more outs, but the river was an eight of hearts to give Baron the victory.
The final-table results were:
| Place | Name | Prize |
| 1st | the guru 11 | $158,800 |
| 2nd | dan_dada | $97,000 |
| 3rd | TheFunSeeker | $67,500 |
| 4th | commitment | $50,000 |
| 5th | jnjnlee86 | $36,600 |
| 6th | CABOWABO23 | $25,000 |
The FTOPS VIII continues today with a $240+$16 Pot-Limit Omaha Knockout event hosted by Max Pescatori that started at 2 p.m. ET, and there will be a $500+$35 No-Limit Hold'em 3xShootout hosted by David Pham starting at 9 p.m. ET.
