to host reality T.V. series for U.K. students officially opened online qualifying tournaments this week for the University Poker Clash, a reality T.V. series that will document the lives of 71 student poker players as they compete for a grand prize that includes a number of major tournament buy-ins and paid tuition from's poker pros. The series will take place in the United Kingdom and will be filmed in Birmingham from June 12-19, 2006, for broadcast on Challenge T.V.

"The University Poker Clash will revolutionize televised poker as we know it," said spokesperson Peter Marcus. "As the University students live together, compare strategies and ultimately match wits and attempt to psychologically derail their opponents, fans of live poker and Survivor-style reality television are in for an exciting ride."

Contestants will receive tips and pointers from globally renowned professionals, compete in "Extreme Poker" challenges, and fight one another (on and off the poker felt) for the first place prize, which includes a seat at the 2006 World Series Of Poker (WSOP) in Las Vegas (flights & hotel included), a seat at the 2006 Caribbean Poker Classic in St. Kitts (flights and hotel included), and tuition from's poker pros Kathy Liebert, Robert Varkonyi, and Juha Helppi.

Second and third place will be awarded a seat at the Caribbean Poker Classic in St. Kitts (flights & hotel) and tuition from's pros.
