iMEGA grabs high-profile PR firm

The Interactive Media Entertainment & Gaming Association just got a powerful new ally.

iMEGA will now be working with Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide to help spread word of what the group is trying to accomplish.

Ogilvy is an international communications firm and part of the WPP group. It is one of the premier PR firms in the world. The Holmes Report recently named it "International Agency of the Year," a title it has won many times over. The company is headquartered in New York but has more than 60 offices around the world.

iMEGA is a pro-online-gambling lobby group that has recently been involved in high profile legal action against the U.S. government regarding the constitutional propriety of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA). iMEGA is a not-for-profit trade organization which, according to its mandate, is dedicated to the continued growth and innovation of the Internet.

The U.S. Department of Justice has made a motion to dismiss iMEGA's lawsuit against UIGEA but iMEGA responded in brief by claiming the United States has already admitted UIGEA violates international trade laws.

The next step in the case is for the defendants to respond to iMEGA's request for a temporary restraining order that will prevent the UIGEA from being enforced before the case can be properly heard in court.

It remains to be seen what Ogilvy will bring to iMEGA and its quest to put an end to UIGEA.
