Maverick sequel a matter of time, says Gibson

By Erin Warner

Mel Gibson may resurrect the greatest gambler on the big screen, as reports surface that the Aussie actor is considering starring in a sequel his wild-west poker comedy, Maverick.

Gibson may revisit his role as Bret Maverick in the 1994 western comedy directed by Richard Donner and co-starring James Garner.

"Garner and I have been looking at that for a while," Australia's news service quotes Gibson as saying. "We've got some great ideas - it won't be happening immediately, but I dare say it'll happen."

The original movie - based on the 1950s television program - stars Mel Gibson as Maverick, a con artist who needs $3,000 to enter a high-stakes poker game. In an attempt to buy in to the game, he teams up with Annabelle Bransford, a duplicitous gambler played by Jodie Foster.
