High Stakes Poker 4 a barnburner
The dust has settled from last weekend's filming, and by all accounts (read: the participants with blogs), Season 4 of High Stakes Poker is jammed with massive pots, wicked banter, tons of side bets and a whole whack of Hellmuth.
And, should you be so inclined, it will also keep you very up-to-date with Phil Hellmuth's latest endorsements and marketing tie-ins.
Filmed over the course of three eight-hour days at Las Vegas's South Point Hotel and Casino, the lineup for Season 4 is packed with the usual suspects - Sammy Farha, Eli Elezra, Jamie Gold, Mike Matusow, the Hellmuthian one.
But they've also introduced some new blood - including a few big-league, up-and-coming online players, noted high-stakes pros like Patrik Antonius and David Benyamine, and Cirque du Soleil founder and billionaire Guy Laliberte - to add some intrigue.
They also upped the buy-in on one of the days to $500,000. A few of the players even showed up with a cool $1 million, and the new blood and fat cash apparently injected a general fervor to the proceedings.
Among the things to look for when Season 4 airs on the Game Show Network in September:
A huge bluff from Gold on Elezra (according to Negreanu's blog), a sophisticated showdown between Farha and Hellmuth (according to Hellmuth's blog), and more side bets and straddles than you can keep track of (according to rule, as gamblers tend to lean towards when surrounded by piles of cash).
Also: the inside scoop, if Negreanu is playing it straight up, on where to get the Phil Hellmuth Grill (the cooking kind, not the fancy teeth).
