Review
Stewart Reuben takes a slightly different approach to teaching poker in his How Good Is Your Pot-Limit Hold'em book. Rather than going step-by-step through how to play Pot-Limit Hold'em and discussing strategies, Reuben's book begins with the ranking of starting hands and then jumps right into analyzing real hands that have been played in casinos around the world.
The book works as a workbook for readers, giving them a chance to choose how they would play the hand each step of the way. At the end, the reader is given points based on their answers and Reuben explains why certain choices were better than others.
Every hand is analyzed from start to finish. Although some may not agree with Reuben's analysis, players will still benefit not only from reading about the hands and the analysis, but also from being forced to think about them and make decisions as the hands are played out in the book.
This book would also be useful in figuring out where you're playing abilities are at. Perhaps you're scoring high on all the hands and are ready to move on to the next level of your game. Or, if you're scoring low, you know you need to keep learning and working on your game before taking on the big boys.
If you're interested in playing Pot-Limit Hold'em, this is a good addition to your poker book collection.
