They say poker can take you places. Bill Shiver found out it's true - he recently won $21 million bonus frequent flier points in a poker tournament.

It was part of Continental Airlines' OnePass 21st Birthday Texas Hold'em Poker Tournament held at the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas.

Shiver, who has been playing poker for approximately four years as a hobby, already has some vacation prospects scheduled, with a Mediterranean cruise, a trip to Italy and road football games all on the agenda.

"It was a wonderful experience," said Shiver. "I didn't talk to anyone - win or lose - who didn't have a great time. I feel very fortunate and really lucky to be a winner."

Prizes totalling more than 25 million OnePass miles were awarded to the top 10 finalists in the tournament, which drew 243 players. David Michaels of San Francisco grabbed $1 million bonus miles for finishing second.

To put things in perspective, 21 million frequent flier miles on Continental could be redeemed for up to 200 round-trip BusinessFirst tickets from Houston to Rome or up to 400 round-trip economy tickets within the United States.
