Hollywood Poker pro James Woods places 24th at L.A. Poker Classic

Hollywood Poker player James Woods placed 24th in the 2006 World Poker Tour (WPT) Los Angeles Poker Classic Championship held at the Commerce Casino in Commerce, Calif., this week. The four-day event began Feb. 16 with a $10,000 buy-in and a prize pool of more than $5 million.

The Academy Awards nominee and Emmy Award winning actor was awarded $39,859 for his efforts.

He outlasted a field of 693 players, including Phil Ivey, Men "The Master" Nguyen, Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi, Daniel Negreanu, Phil Hellmuth, Jennifer Harman, Barry Greenstein, Antonio Esfandiari, Michael Gracz, Erick Lindgren, Mike Matusow, John Juanda, David Williams, Juha Helppi, Bill Gazes, Chris Bigler, Amir Vahedi, Allen Cunningham, David Plastik, T.J. Cloutier, Scotty Nguyen, and Ted Forrest. Celebrity players who participated include Bodog.com sponsored Shannon Elizabeth, Gabe Kaplan, Los Angeles Lakers owner Dr. Jerry Buss, and Jennifer Tilly.

Commenting on the tournament, Woods said, "Some of the greatest players in the poker world participated in this event and I am thrilled for the opportunity to have played with them in this tournament.

"There are some days where you are really lucky and then there are days where you play badly. I had some really great battles in this tournament and won many, but in the end my luck just ran out."
