Poker will once again be the conduit to direct money to a worthy charity this November.

The El Dorado County Habitat for Humanity in northern California plans to host a Texas Hold'em Poker Tournament and Fundraiser on Saturday, Nov. 1. According to a press release for the event, Habitat for Humanity hopes to raise at least $40,000 through the tournament and related auctions to help defray costs of the El Dorado County Building Project.

The El Dorado County Building Project has been organized in order to build the local Habitat's first-ever multiple dwelling area at a six-acre location near El Dorado. Low-income future homeowners can qualify for no-interest loans by investing 300-500 hours of "sweat equity" toward a home built by Habitat.

Lending their hands to raise money for Habitat are some of California's poker elite: "The First Lady of Poker" Jerry Yang, all-around poker superstar J.C. Tran and former WPT Ladies Night champ Joanne "JJ" Liu. Also on hand to help out will be local player Kelli Griggs.

Griggs is probably best-known for finishing second to J.J. Liu on the 2006 WPT Ladies Night Out after winning the Legends of Poker Ladies Poker Party. The local has several other successes on her tournament resume, including a WSOP cash and a second-place finish in an L.A. Poker Classic event for $56,185.

Coaching sessions with Griggs and all the players attending the tournament will be available through an eBay auction that begins on Saturday, Oct. 25.

A seat in the fundraiser's poker tournament will cost $75, with rebuys and add-ons available for just $25 each. Those who just want to mingle with fellow poker fans and donate to a good cause can get in for just $25.

The top nine finishers will all receive a poker table to take home, and the top three will receive VISA gift cards worth $500, $375 and $200. A wide variety of other prizes will be up for grabs in both a raffle and a silent auction, including two vacation stays at luxury condos in South Lake Tahoe and San Jose del Cabo, Sacramento Kings tickets complete with limo service, golf packages, and a digital camera.

Other prizes have already been donated by Curtis & Co. Watches, The World Poker Tour, CardPlayer Magazine, Life's A Bluff, Full Tilt Poker, the Jennifer Harman Charity Poker Tournament and SpadeClub.com.

The event at the El Dorado CSD Gym will open up at 6 p.m. PT on Nov. 1, with cards in the air at 7 p.m. sharp. You can purchase tickets ahead of time by visiting the El Dorado County Habitat for Humanity Web site at www.edchabitat.com.
