Hilton to host charity tournament in December

Las Vegas Strip

The Las Vegas Hilton will be hosting its first celebrity charity poker tournament in early December during National Finals Rodeo week. The event will feature country music artists, rodeo stars and other celebrities competing for prizes and raising money for the T.J. Martell Foundation.

Taking place Dec. 11, the event will start out with a media reception and charity auction at 11 a.m., and then the No-Limit Texas Hold'em charity tournament will begin at noon.

Seating for the tournament is limited to 150 players and it has a $500+$50 buy-in. Re-buys and add-ons will also be offered.

The tournament has a guaranteed prize pool of $50,000, based on 120 paid, and several other great prizes. Any money above the $50,000 guarantee, including funds gathered from the re-buys and add-ons, will go to the T.J. Martell Foundation.

The foundation was started by music industry executive Tony Martell when his son T.J. asked him to raise a million dollars for the leukemia research that made it possible for him to reach his 19th birthday.

According to the T.J. Martell Foundation Web site, T.J. died later that year, but his father and a group of music industry executives, artists and friends vowed to uphold that promise.

Their initial event was a huge success and the T.J. Martell Foundation was formed. More than 30 years later, the foundation is still running and has raised more than $225 million while funding eight flagship research centers for treatments and cures for leukemia, cancer and AIDS.

Continuing the tradition and legacy, country and rodeo stars such as Britt Bockius, Tracy Byrd, Rodney Carrington, Lee Greenwood, Justin McBride and Trent Willmont are already slated to participate.

To register for the event, call the Las Vegas Hilton Casino Marketing department at 1-800-457-3307.
