High-tech scheme foiled in Atlantic City?

The prize money
Not easy to get at poker money.

New Jersey authorities apparently won't acknowledge it.

And none of the poker players involved in the supposedly targeted tournament - the $5,000 main event at the Borgata last month - saw anything.

But Channel 8 Eyewitness News in Las Vegas and investigative reporter George Knapp are claiming a high-tech scheme aimed at high-profile poker players was foiled at the tournament and four suspects, including an international casino security expert, have been arrested.

In his report, Knapp claims "well-placed sources" indicated New Jersey gaming agents raided a hotel room at the Borgata and found it packed with electronic equipment, leading to the arrests.

Knapp elaborated further, quoting a spokesman for Boyd Gaming, a partner in the Borgata, as saying "the scheme did target high-end poker players, but off the floor" and that neither Borgata security nor the tournament was ever compromised.

Among the suspects arrested was a Las Vegas gaming consultant, apparently regarded as a "world-class expert in countering cheaters."

The Eyewitness News team will have more information as it comes available, Knapp says, but for the complete news story as it stands, visit LasVegasNow.
