High-Stakes Report: Gus and Viktor Void Clears Out the Nosebleeds
Gus Hansen and Viktor Blom leaving Full Tilt Poker last week dealt a severe blow to the action on the nosebleed limits.
Actually, it pretty much shifted it altogether from Full Tilt to the lower limits on PokerStars.
Still, the one player who stood for action as always was? Viktor Blom.
Unfortunately for him it was another week as the biggest loser online. On the other end of the spectrum the winners of the week were all newcomers.
HoldemJill9 Rules 8-Game
Until very recently the high-stakes games were a playground for high rollers from all over the world.
This looks like it's all in the past for now.
The two action guarantees -- Blom and Hansen -- won’t be receiving any sponsoring money from Full Tilt anymore so they'll have to play on their own dime.
The consequences are visible of you look at the numbers. In September there was still more than $1 million a day going across the tables. In October it was only half as much.
The disappearance of Blom and Hansen quickly led to an exodus from Full Tilt to PokerStars but until then a previously unknown player dominated Full Tilt’s 8-Game tables.
In two days straight the mysterious new player beat regulars like Alexander PostflopAction Kostritsyn and British player Elior CrazyElior Sion in the mixed games.
HoldemJill99 took over $220k in these two days and Sion had the largest holes in his bankroll.
Blom loses on PokerStars, too
On Wednesday it was Viktor Blom all over again. Blom moved to the highest stakes on PokerStars but changing the platform didn’t change his luck.
A German player called Donthmrlepls, also known as bbvisbadforme on FullTilt, made Blom’s life pretty miserable.
The unidentified German is a semi-regular and was pretty often seen at the highest NLHE tables on Full Tilt late last year. Now he showed Blom who the man to fear at 2-7 is.
Three very short sessions – two about 20 minutes long, one only six! – were enough for Isildur1 to lose a whopping $114k. He followed that by losing another $20k to RaulGonzales, who is also SanIker on FullTilt.
Donthmrlepls also jumped into action again on Full Tilt. As bbvisbadforme he took over $100k from Alexander Kostritsyn playing 2-7 Triple Draw.
Over both accounts, that made him the biggest winner of the week.
Biggest Pot of the Week
The shift of the action from Full Tilt to PokerStars also affected the largest pot of the week.
In this hand Phil MrSweets28 Galfond and Rui PepperoniF Cao are heads-up at a PLO cash-game table. The limits are $50/$100, a little lower than you would usually expect.
French-Chinese player Cao raised to $300 and Galfond 3-bet to $900. Cao called and both players took a look at the flop:
Galfond bet $1,204.66, a seemingly odd bet, but it was called by Cao anyway. After the turn
Galfond switched into check-call mode and paid Cao’s bet of $3,155.49. On the river
Galfond checked agai, and Cao fired a barrel of $10,518.30. MrSweets28 really wanted to go to showdown so he called again. Turns out it wasn’t a good idea, as he had to muck his hand. Cao showed
for a full house. Cao stacked $31,556 and had won the biggest hand of the week.
