'High Stakes Poker' back in action on GSN
Welcome back Kaplan! The Game Show Network's (GSN) popular "High Stakes Poker" series kicks off Season 3 next week with some intriguing twists to its successful recipe - including an appearance at the tables by the show's usual host Gabe Kaplan.
The first episode of Season 3 airs Jan. 15 at 9 p.m.(EST) and will once again feature top poker pros and amateurs playing with their own cash (and lots of it).
It may not be the top pros you might expect though. Episode 1's line-up shaker: World Series of Poker Main Event winner Jamie Gold.
The newly-minted six million dollar man will fill out a table with the legendary Doyle Brunson, Daniel Negreanu, Daniel Alaei, Shawn Sheikhan, Victor Ramdin, Bill Chen and Mike "The Mouth" Matusow.
Episode 2's surprise sit-down: the show's host, Gabe Kaplan.
Known to the rest of the world as Mr. Kotter, from the 70s hit "Welcome Back, Kotter," Kaplan is known to the poker world more as a respected cash game player and the popular host and analyst of a number of poker events.
In Episode 2, he gets to put some of his money where his mouth is: He asks if anyone wants to give up their seat at the table, and Daniel "Kid Poker" Negreanu accepts.
Negreanu then calls the action with host AJ Benza as Kaplan plays at the table into Episode 3, airing Jan. 29.
To sate your appetite until then, GSN is recapping the first two seasons with a one-hour "Best of High Stakes Poker" special at 8 p.m. (EST) the day of the premiere, Jan. 15, to get you caught up with the most dramatic moments to date.
Also new this year: podcasts on iTunes and additional video content on GSN.com, providing viewers with more coverage than ever before. The podcasts will feature interviews from the players and unseen behind-the-scenes footage.
