Here comes WPT Ladies Night V

Once again it's time for some estrogen-charged poker excitement. The WPT Ladies Night V will play out this Saturday and Sunday at the Bicycle Casino in Los Angeles.

One of the premier female events in the world, the tournament has helped produce such poker luminaries as Clonie Gowen and Isabelle Mercier. Last year J.J. Liu beat Kelli Griggs in heads-up play to claim the title for herself. Perhaps best of all, every year the tournament raises funds for breast cancer research.

"We really look forward to doing this event each year, as it benefits an organization that works tirelessly around the clock and around the globe to eradicate a disease that affects so many people," said Robyn Moder, Executive Vice President, WPT Studios. "Not only does Ladies Night raise funds for such a great cause, but it raises important awareness and strength among the women who come and participate in the event. It's an important message to be sharing with the poker and general community alike."

This year the WPT has partnered with Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the leader of the global breast cancer movement, to host the event. The WPT and Hands-On Mobile will both be making $5,000 to Komen for the Cure. The Bicycle Casino will also contribute 15% of each $1,000 buy-in to the cause. For those who cannot participate but wish to contribute to the event www.CharityBuzz.com will be hosting an online auction from Aug. 8 to Aug. 23.

The tournament itself will play out over the weekend with the eventual winner earning first place cash and a seat at the WPT Ladies final table on Aug. 31, which will take place on the WPT stage in front of television cameras. The competition will be fierce, however, with Mimi Tran, Linda Johnson, Kristy Gazes, Melissa Hayden and reigning Ladies Night champion J.J. Liu all invited to the final table.

The winner of the final table will receive a seat at the $25,000 WPT World Champion at Bellagio in April.
