Phil Hellmuth has a shot at winning his record-setting 12th bracelet in the prestigious $50k Players Championship today.

Hellmuth is fifth in chips at a nine-player final table that is absolutely stacked with pros Minh Ly, Brian Rast, Matt Glantz, George Lind, Owais Ahmed, Ben Lamb, Scott Seiver and Jason Lestor.

Ly, a noted high stakes pro, may be the toughest obstacle for Hellmuth as he’s the huge chip leader with 5.2 million chips.

The final table could have lasting implications for the 2011 WSOP Player of the Year Race with current front-runner Ben Lamb also at the final table. Lamb is currently in first place with 572.65 points while Hellmuth is in fourth place with 458.25.

Hellmuth could potentially pass Lamb in POY with a first place finish in the $50k Players Championship.

It would be Hellmuth’s first bracelet in a non-Hold’em event but there is one caveat to that statement: the final table will be played out in No-Limit Hold’em.

Hellmuth’s won his 11th bracelet at the WSOP came in 2007. Since then he’s recorded six final tables, including two runner-up finishes, but has fallen painfully short of first place every time.

Doyle Brunson and Johnny Chan are both tied in second with 10 bracelets but have remained stagnant since 2005.

The final day of the 2011 WSOP $50k Players Championship begins today at 3 p.m. Here how the chips look heading into the day:

1. Minh Ly - 5,215,000
2. Brian Rast - 2,660,000
3. Matt Glantz - 2,535,000
