Hasan Habib immigrated to the United States from Pakistan in 1980. He studied at the University of Redlands and then began running a chain of video stores, all the while improving his poker. In the late '90's, he was in a position to become a full-time poker professional. Habib has had tremendous success in tournament poker, most notably is his back-to-back final table play in the WPT Championship Events of 2004 and 2005 (finishing 2nd and 3rd).

How many WSOP events have you played in this year?

I have only played in 9 events. My motivation to play hasn't been very strong since about January. I feel like I want to relax more and so I don't play as much poker. Now there is only the Main Event left for me to play this year.

Are you strictly a tournament player?

No, but tournaments are my favorite kind of game. I have had my best results playing tournaments and I enjoy them more than side games.

How did you get into playing poker?

I started playing when I was in college and tried a few small tournaments which I did well in, so I tried bigger events and that worked out too. At first, I read a few poker books and talked to good players, mostly discussing a lot of strategy. That has been the secret to my success.

What are your strongest poker variations in tournaments and side games?

In tournaments it's No-Limit Hold'em and in side games it's Omaha Hi-Lo.

What does the future look like for you?

I'll try to relax more and not play so much poker. For example, I'd love to travel to places like Europe, Mexico, and Costa Rica.
