Review
Harrington on Hold'em, Volume III is the third in a series of legendary poker books from acclaimed pro player Dan Harrington. The first two books are held in high regard among poker pros and novices alike and have helped many aspiring tournament players reach stardom. This book is proving to be no exception.
Dubbed "The Workbook," Harrington's third Hold'em volume features 300-plus pages of excellent hand quizzes in almost every imaginable position and situation in a single or multi-table tournament. Each quiz is carefully researched and explained, and gives the reader multiple choices in every stage of the hand. Position, chip stack, opponent character and overall thoughts are provided in every situation to assist the reader in making informed choices. The different answers are assigned scores from 1-5, and each is well motivated. A fun extra is that a fair share of the hands are taken from real-world tournaments, letting the reader play out a famous hand while taking on the persona of a well known poker player.
Dan Harrington is a world class pro who has won more tournaments than most players even dream of, and Harrington on Hold'em, Volume III is another great poker book from one of the greats of tournament poker. The quizzes, answers and analysis are top notch and leave few players second guessing the conclusions.
This book is not aimed at complete beginners thus there is no glossary, hand strength chart, or beginner chapter. If you are a total novice, you would be better off reading a beginner book that will teach you the basics, something this book does not. However, all you tournament players seeking enlightenment through example hands and quizzes, this IS the book for you.
Just as Dan Harrington's previous works are strongly recommended, so too is Harrington on Hold'em, Volume III. It is a cornerstone in any serious tournament player's bookshelf.
The book consists of 56 chapters, including (1) About Dan Harrington; (2) About Bill Robertie; (3) Introduction; (50) Chapters Containing the Hand Quizzes; (54) Scoring the Problems; and (55) Categorizing Your Errors.
The book totals 352 pages including the score chart, play error finder and index.
