Harrah's to launch WSOP mobile device with Glu Mobile
By Lianne Elias
Harrah's Entertainment, Inc., owner of the World Series of Poker (WSOP), announced last week its affiliate, Harrah's Licensing Company, LLC, has entered into an exclusive worldwide, multi-year alliance to design and distribute WSOP-branded mobile content together with Glu Mobile, a leading creator and global publisher of mobile entertainment. Glu Mobile is scheduled to begin developing and producing content this year.
The agreement calls for the inclusion of WSOP games, graphics, and ringtones, among other applications, in the new mobile program, and closely resembles the pacts concluded last year between Harrah's and America Online for online gaming (see previous PokerListings.com news article) and Harrah's and Activision for console gaming.
According to Jeffrey Pollack, WSOP commissioner and vice president of sports and entertainment marketing for Harrah's Entertainment, Inc., "This best-in-class alliance is a key component of our global distribution strategy for the World Series of Poker. Glu's expertise and marketing savvy will introduce the World Series of Poker to new audiences around the world and create new ways for our current fans to experience our tournament."
Greg Ballard, president and CEO of Glu Mobile, echoed Pollack's sentiments, adding, "The ever-increasing popularity of poker and the emerging consumer excitement of multiplayer mobile games combine to make this a timely and powerful alliance."
