Harrah's announces 2007 WSOP schedule

By Sarah Polson

Harrah's Entertainment, Inc. announced the full schedule of events today for the 2007 World Series of Poker (WSOP). The tournament, set to begin June 1, will have 55 bracelet events with buy-ins up to $50,000.

With additions of a $2,500 H.O.R.S.E. event, Mixed Hold'em events and a $5,000 Heads-Up No-Limit Hold'em event, WSOP commissioner Jeffrey Pollack said the 2007 schedule offers something for everyone.

"As part of our commitment to innovate for the benefit of all players, we've added nine bracelet events and created more opportunities for both amateurs and professionals to win poker's most coveted prize," Pollack said.

The 2006 WSOP had 46 events compared to the 55 planned this year and attracted more than 42,000 players from around the world. The total prize pool for all the events ended up being more than $171 million, with the Main Event itself topping $83.5 million.

All the players who made the final table of the Main Event left millionaires, with the record-breaking $12 million first prize going to Jamie Gold.

Along with the additional events, WSOP officials have also added 300 more tables. This will allow for more space and bring the number of start days for the Main Event from four down to three.
