Hachem Wins ANZPT Perth

Tony Hachem continued his domination of Australian poker this weekend, winning the Australia and New Zealand Poker Tour Perth main event.

Hachem outlasted a field of 221 at Perth's Burswood Entertainment Complex to book the $132,750 win, the biggest field ever assembled for a poker tournament in Perth.

He is the reigning Player of the Year in the ANZPT after cashing in four of five events last season, but until now, a win had eluded him.

"I am so over the moon," he said. "Winning this means so much to me. I have come so close it is fantastic to finally have a title to my name."

Hachem, who was once more famous for being 2005 World Series of Poker Main Event champ Joe Hachem's brother than for his own poker skills, started this season with a seventh place finish in Adelaide and after booking his first win in Perth, his amazing run now includes cashing in all but one event since the ANZPT started in February 2009.

The win also puts Hachem at the top of the ANZPT Player of the Year leader board with five events left in this season.

This was the first time the ANZPT had come to Perth. The next stop on the tour is Sydney Apr. 21-25.
