The 2007 Grosvenor Poker Tour was so successful that organizers are already looking ahead to 2008.

The tour will follow a similar format to the 2007, with nine £1,000 legs and a £3,000 Grand Final. In addition several new and interesting events will be added to the tour including a Link Event in July. The Grosvenor Grand Prix will also be included as part of the tour.

Blue Square Poker will continue as the tour sponsor, with significant added prize money and regular online satellites for all events.

It's assumed the GUKPT leaderboard will carry over as well. Currently Dave Smith is leading with 216 points. Mazhar Nawab and Roberto Romanello are right behind him in second and third respectively. There is a £5,000 prize awarded to the player on top of the leaderboard at the end of the year.

This year marked the inaugural season of the GUKPT which promised to bring the big-game experience to local casinos in the U.K. It appears to have made good on the promise as the events have been well attended thus far. Prize money awarded so far exceeds £2.2 million and is expected to break the £4 million mark by the end of the year.

Blue Square Poker has added almost £200,000 to the prize pool, including a £10,000 boost for the winner of each event.

Because of its moderately sized buy-in, and ample opportunities to satellite in, the GUKPT is a favorite among casual players as well as professionals.

Well-known poker players like David Colclough, Michael Greco and Joe Beevers have all made appearances on the tour.
