And he or she who plays the best poker shall be king! Or the new Paradise Poker "King of Canada," anyway, as the poker site kicked off daily freerolls Monday to culminate in an April main event that anoints the winner with the sure-to-be sought-after title and $50,000.
Canada is a hotbed of great poker players.
From the big names, like "Kid Poker" Daniel Negreanu, Gavin Smith, and "Yukon" Brad Booth, to the lesser-knowns clicking away on their computers in deepest, darkest Saskatchewan, Canadians have proven time and again they have what it takes to win at big-league poker.
Their fashion sense can be questioned, yes. But surely not their poker games.
Paradise Poker is choosing to recognize the latter, going in search of the best and proferring the crown of "King of Canada" to the victor.
Open only to Canadian residents, the tournament currently offers daily freerolls at Paradise Poker concluding with an online main event April 15.
The top 50 players from each daily heat qualify for a weekly final table, taking place every Sunday at 10 p.m. (EST). Twenty-six Sunday final winners will then earn a seat at the "King of Canada" online main event April 15.
The winner will receive a cool $50,000.
"Canadian players consistently win or place well in poker tournaments all over the world," said John Faley, Paradise Poker marketing director. "The field is already strong, and new Canadian players are joining Paradise Poker every day, so we decided to hold a tournament just for them."
During the opening week, players can also enter a special one-time side table with the first place finisher automatically earning a spot in the main event.
Four seats will also be randomly awarded to customers who have played in a qualifier and deposited a minimum of $100 to their Paradise Poker account in that same week.
A seat will be awarded to the player with the most Sunday final appearances as well, and one will win a seat via lottery.
