Recently, reports have surfaced on the Internet suggesting that poker pro Barry Greenstein has abandoned his policy of giving 100% of his tournament winnings to charity. Widely respected in the poker community and beyond for his philanthropic ways, Mr. Greenstein has been donating his poker tournament winnings in full to a slew of charitable organizations over the last number of years.
In an effort to ascertain the truth, PokerListings.com contacted Mr. Greenstein who admitted that the burgeoning pro tournament circuit and its related costs have somewhat infringed on his ability to sustain his previous practices, and forced him to modify his ways accordingly.
"I will be donating my net earnings from tournaments at the end of each year," said Mr. Greenstein in an email. "Until now, I was donating the payoff each time I cashed, but I can't afford to continue doing that. I didn't anticipate the growth and expense of tournament poker."
