Global Poker League Begins with Live-Streamed Action

GPL Start

It's finally time to see what the Global Poker League is all about.

The first round of the GPL kicked off earlier today. Read on to find out who’s playing, who’re the wildcards and which team managers didn’t pick themselves.

Three years after it was conceived of, the Global Poker League is finally off to start. Yesterday, the final wildcards were announced by the team managers – all except one, that is.

All the team managers picked themselves as wildcards, except Phil Gruissem of the Berlin Bears and Andre Akkari of the Sao Paolo Mets.

Gruissem is certainly the manager whose wildcard picks were the most sensational. You've got online heavyweight Dan Cates on one hand and lively table talker and amateur Bill Perkins on the other. It's a dynamic mix.

Igor Yaroshevsky, picked by Anatoly Filatov for the Moscow Wolverines is the highest GPI ranking (#45) wildcard, while Bill Perkins (#13786) is the lowest.

Chris Moneymaker’s decision to bring in Scott Ball of Twitch is going to be interesting, while Bryn Kenney bringing his own brother in give off the impression of a choice that wasn’t necessarily governed by poker only.
