GCBPT Nottingham sells out, Bedi wins
The Gala Casinos British Poker Tour hit Nottingham last weekend for a second season, selling out once again to create a £118,000 prize pool. Walking away with the best of that was Rupinder Bedi.
Bedi has a couple other small cashes - one in a Napoleons Owlerton May Festival event and another in an Amateur Poker Association and Tour event - but the GCBPT Nottingham main event is his first win.
He got there by defeating a field of 224 players as the competition was whittled down through two Day 1's and came down to the final table in the second day of play.
Joining Bedi at the final table were James Keys, Richard Howe, Thomas Rutter, Daniel Byrom, Dave Maudlin, Luong-Huu Bui, Steve Milton and Gordon McArthur.
McArthur was the short stack as play began, and not surprisingly, as such he ended up being the first one eliminated. Milton followed close behind him to bring the table down to seven players.
Out in seventh place was Byrom, who doubled up Keys before hitting the rail. Sixth place went to Howe as he took a big hit from Maudlin. The extra chips didn't help Maudlin though as he was the next to leave.
Rutter went out next, and then Bui was wiped out by Bedi to take third place. By that time Bedi had a dominating stack and was able to whittle away at Keys' chips.
The final hand came down to Keys' A-7 versus Bedi's A-9. Bedi was paired on the turn to take home the first-place prize.
The final-table standings and payouts are as follows:
|1st||Rupinder Bedi||£27,000 (plus Grand Final bonus seat)|
|2nd||James Keys||£22,000 (plus Bristol GCBPPT Main Event seat)|
|3rd||Luong-Huu Bui||£17,000 (plus Bristol GCBPPT Main Event seat)|
