Gavin Smith named WPT Player of the Year

Full Tilt Poker player Gavin Smith has been named the "Season IV Player of the Year" by the World Poker Tour (WPT), it was announced this weekend.

Over the past year, Smith reached the final table in three separate $10,000 buy-in WPT events, including a first place finish at the 2005 Mirage Poker Showdown.

Smith also earned a third place finish at the Second Annual Doyle Brunson North American Poker Championship and a fourth place finish at the Gold Strike World Poker Open. Alone, those three performances earned Smith more than $1.6 million in tournament winnings.

"Getting to a WPT final table is an accomplishment achieved by many," said fellow Full Tilt Poker representative Howard Lederer, "But making three final tables in one season, including a win, shows that Gavin is among poker's elite competitors."

Smith is the third Full Tilt Poker representative to earn the WPT Player of the Year honor, following Howard Lederer in Season I and Erick Lindgren in Season II.
