Gathy Scores Third Bracelet for $560,843, Ties Belgian Record
It’s been quite a week for Belgium.
The national football team locked up their place in the Round of 16 in the 2016 Euro Cup and Michael Gathy won his third bracelet (sixth overall for Belgium) in the ultra-competitive $5,000 NLHE 6-Max event last night.
Interesting Gathy and Davidi Kitai are the only players from Belgian to win a WSOP bracelet and they both have three a piece now.
Gathy now has just shy of $2m in lifetime live tournament earnings, which places his him fourth on the all-time money list for Belgium.
Gathy Defeats International Final Table
The $5k 6-Max final table may as well have been the Euro Cup with the number of international players on display.
Gathy had to get by a group of players from France, Spain and England as well as the USA, Australia and Vietnam.
In the end Gathy overcame a heads-up chip deficit to defeat French pro Adrien Allain and lock up his third bracelet. All of Gathy’s wins have come in No-Limit Hold’em.
“We don’t have that many Belgian poker players -- but the ones we have are great,” Gathy joked after winning.
Despite Gathy tying Kitai’s record for most bracelets for a Belgium, Kitai actually took the time to rail Gathy at the final table and wish him luck.
In the other final table last night American Hani Awad upset Fabrice Soulier to win Event 36 $2,500 Mixed Omaha/Seven-Card Stud Hi-Lo for $213,186.
