Galfond Goes Big with $368k Session
After several disappointing sessions, Phil “MrSweets28” Galfond thundered back with a huge $368,000 victory on PokerStars last night.
Galfond fired off 2,236 hands of $200/$400 Pot-Limit Omaha although it was split between a 6-Max game against the likes of Rafi “refaelamit” Amit, Ilari Sahamies and socutiesf and a heads-up match against Andreas “Skjervoy” Torbergsen.
He was successful in both games but did some serious damage to Torbergsen in their heads-up match.
It was a marked change for Skjervoy, who has been running hot all month.
When Galfond finally logged off for the night he was up a staggering $368k.
Galfond’s online progress over the last couple weeks had been nearly stagnant but thanks to last night’s session he is once again holding a profit of $483k in 2011.
Meanwhile Skjervoy recorded his first bad session in weeks and ended up being last night’s biggest loser with $470k in losses.
Skjervoy is still the biggest winner on PokerStars this year with $1.49 million in profit but Rui “PepperoniF” Cao is now hot on his heels with $1.43 million.
Galfond wasn’t the only player to bump a cold streak last night as Ilari Sahamies managed to escape the $200/$400 6-Max games with $183k in profit.
Sahmies has been one of the swingiest players for the better part of a year but he now finds himself up $534k in 2011.
Rounding out the top five winners were VietRussian (+$149k), socutiesf (+$110k) and tjbentham (+$100k).
Meanwhile Rafi “refaelamit” Amit had another rough day in the 6-Max games losing $219k. Amit started the week well but has since lost nearly $300k.
Also in the losing column were bernard-bb (-$136k) and mTw-DaviN (-$65k).
Viktor “Isildur1” Blom also lost $80k although he played only 105 hands. Blom has been strangely absent from the high stakes online games over the last few days but with more and more $200/$400 games running it’s likely he’ll be putting in some volume soon.
