Full Tilt finds WSOP seat winner in Greece
The players who have won money and prizes from the Full Tilt Poker freerolls exclusive to PokerListings.com have come from across the globe. The latest, The_Fisherman_9, hails from Greece and is getting ready to take on the 2008 World Series of Poker.
The_Fisherman_9 is a 23-year-old student studying trade and advertising while also working as an insurance agent. Somewhere in between all that, he is also an avid poker player, and has been for about three and a half years.
He got into playing poker watching some videos of major tournaments and now he plays every day, with four to five days of play at Full Tilt Poker each week.
"It's a well-known site with a very large number of players," The_Fisherman_9 said of Full Tilt Poker. "I like playing MTTs there."
All his play at the poker site resulted in him racking up the necessary 300 player points during one week to qualify for the WSOP freeroll. He ended up being one of 108 players who qualified and played in the freeroll, which awarded a $12,500 WSOP prize package to the winner, plus $3,000 for the rest of the prize pool.
In the end, the playing field came down to The_Fisherman_9 and TheDoud. The_Fisherman_9 finished off TheDoud on a hand where The_Fisherman_9 raised three times the big blind from the button with pocket sevens.
TheDoud called from the big blind, and they saw a flop of 7-K-3.
"He bet first - about three-fourths of the pot," The_Fisherman_9 said. "I slow-played my set and just called."
The turn brought a jack and TheDoud bet three-fourths of the pot again, and The_Fisherman_9 called. After the river brought a six, TheDoud went all-in, and The_Fisherman_9 called. His trip sevens were good, and he had a $12,500 WSOP prize package to show for it.
The freeroll's final-table results were:
The_Fisherman_9 said he thought this was probably his biggest win so far, and now he'll be busy preparing to take on the WSOP Main Event in July.
"It will be a fabulous experience for me," he said. "I am not nervous at all, but I am very excited!"
When asked if there was any particular pro he'd be eager (if apprehensive) to play against in the series, The_Fisherman_9 said. "There is, and [it] couldn't be anyone else ... Allen Cunningham!!"
