Fox Hunting Massive Back-to-Back in San Remo

A short Day 3 has wrapped in Italy with just 64 players – including newly crowned 2011 WSOPE Champ Elio Fox - left in the hunt for the EPT San Remo title.

The 25-year-old Fox is, to put it mildly, having a week any poker player would kill for.

Winning the 2011 WSOPE Main Event for €1.4 million on Thursday in Cannes, Fox made the short trip down the coast and bought into the €5,000 San Remo main event on Saturday.

Three days of play later, he’s in the top 10 in chips and angling for yet another huge score to add to his bankroll.

Playing for himself with no backers, Fox is in line to add at bare minimum €12,000 but looking very likely to make another deep run towards the €800,000 first-place prize.

Sitting in ninth when play wrapped today, Fox will have 652,000 in chips to start Day 4 tomorrow.

It won’t be easy however as he also sits right in the middle of an elite pack of poker pros looking for a big title of their own.

Leading the chips counts at 1.2 million is Canadian pro Chris McClung.

Known as dor1t0s online, McClung has just under $1 million in online earnings in his career including a recent win in the Sunday $109+re-buys on PokerStars in July.

In live play, McClung has a more modest $300k in earnings but a 3rd-place finish in the ETP High Roller event and a 28th-place finish in the 2011 WSOPE Main Event in Cannes in October alone.

Also in the top 10 in chips and positioned for deep runs heading into Day 4 are Day 2 chip leader Joseph Cheong (833k), PokerStars pros Johnny Lodden (793k) and Lex Veldhuis (687k) and former EPT champ Mike “Timex” McDonald (648k).

Still in and lingering in the top 35 are pros Kevin "ImaLuckSac" MacPhee (476k), David Bach (412k), Vanessa Selbst (400k) and EPT founder John Duthie (319k).

Notable names eliminated today but making the money were Shaun Deeb, Amit Mahkija, Melanie Weisner, Marco Traniello and Toby Lewis.

Day 4 action starts at 2 p.m. CET tomorrow in San Remo. Follow the PokerStars blog for live updates and chip counts.
