Former 888 CEO called on by French authorities
To cut potential press speculation off at the pass, 888 Holdings Plc. issued a statement today confirming non-executive director and former Chief Executive Officer John Anderson has been "asked to attend an interview with the French authorities."
The latest in a series of legal wranglings for the major players in the online gambling industry, no further information was released other than the admission of the request and that 888 is in consultation with its legal advisers.
Further announcements are to be made in due course "if appropriate."
Gaming companies have been at odds with the French government over laws that forbid online gaming and advertising from companies other than the state-run Francaise des Jeux.
888 did make it clear, however, that revenue and income from French customers represents an "immaterial" percentage of the company's business, and did report last month net gaming revenue rose 7% last year, even though it left the U.S. market.
