Five Diamond World Poker Classic underway

By Christopher Hunt

The march to the WPT Season 5 Doyle Brunson North American Poker Classic has begun. Preliminary events to the Dec. 14-18 No-Limit Hold'em finale kicked off on Friday at the Bellagio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

The Fifth Annual Five Diamond World Poker Classic started in fine form, with Kevin Song capturing the first of 13 daily No-Limit Hold'em events that lead to the $15,000 buy-in Doyle Brunson North American Poker Classic on Dec. 14.

Song won a seat in the $25,000 World Poker Tour Finals set for next spring, and a $253,560 pay out.

Buy-ins vary from $1,500 to $5,000 over the course of the schedule, with a Seniors No-Limit Hold'em event and two $1,500 + $90 super satellites the two days prior to the Brunson Classic included on the agenda.

The World Poker Tour TV Finals are planned for the following Tuesday, Dec. 19.

Among the well-known pros involved in play already are 2004 WSOP runner-up David Williams and 1998 WSOP champ Scotty Nguyen.
