Iceman frozen out of Invitational final table

Teddy Monroe
Global warming claimed another victim Sunday as the Iceman bubbled in Commerce.

Fresh off of a 16th-place finish at last week's Los Angeles Poker Classic $10,000 Main Event, the Iceman looked primed to freeze the competition at the Freddy Deeb is still around.

The dynamic Deeb weathered another chaotic day of play on Sunday, outlasting such luminous rivals as Chris "Jesus" Ferguson, Marlon Wayans, Benji Madden and Mekhi Phifer.

Phifer, whose The Vine Group charity banked almost $80k from this event to further its goal of helping to educate underprivileged children in Africa, finished a heartbreaking 13th place when his A-4 lost to Scott Clements' K-5.

A disappointing finish, perhaps, but certainly an impressive weekend for Phifer, a regular at the Invitational who told PokerListings TV he'll bring The Vine Group back next year as long as Steve Lipscomb allows it.

Clements, meanwhile, outlasted both Monroe and Nejad to earn a seat at the final table, as did Gonzalez, an avid poker player who enters Monday's action as the sole surviving celebrity.

Rounding out the field are Jose Tavares, Ottavio Tassone and chip leader Tom Hall.

Final-table jousting begins at 4 p.m. Pacific Time and continues until someone's $100k richer. Check out all the action in the Live Tournaments section.
