Just talking about the main event and how much money is up for grabs in the mainstream media is a great thing.</p> <p>Cada managed to pull off his four minutes without using any made up words and on the whole came off as a relatively responsible poker professional.</p> <p>Check out the clip here while it's still available on Youtube. But hey such is life I guess.<br><br> Not much too talk about, I busted half way through Day 1. I was pretty card dead all day which seems standard in live tournaments as far as I can tell.<p>Admittedly I don't play live tournaments that often but I've probably played twenty lifetime and in that time I don't think I've ever had what I consider to be a decent run of cards. <br /><br /> I mean it's obviously a small sample and I'm just bitching but it'd be nice to win some hands at showdown and not have to manufacture every pot.<br /><br /> But I know how much variance is in these stupid things so I'll keep plugging away whenever decent live tournaments run and eventually I'll ship one.<br /><br /> Hopefully, it'll be one of the next two I play. I'll be playing the $1100 event on Monday and the four-day $2,700 main event starting Thursday. I'd love to do well in one of those seeing as though River Rock used to be one of the casinos I dealt at.<br /><br /> It would just feel awesome to come back and just slay it. I'll keep you guys posted with what goes on.<br /><br /> Other than that I was sick at the beginning of the month so I haven't put nearly as many hands in as I would have liked and with all this live poker I probably won't get to. Homer draws three cards and "D'ohs" at each one, following up the last with a sly "Woo-hoo" to throw off his opponents.</p> <p>Moe reads Homer's tell and comes to the conclusion he must be weak. When called Homer throws down his cards face-up, thinking he's lost. It takes Moe to realize that in fact Homer had a straight flush.</p> <p></p><p><strong>Homer's Home Game (2F21)</strong></p> <p>Marge has become a cop and Homer is basking in the freedom of being a cop's husband by hosting an illegal home game and smoking Cuban cigars in his kitchen.</p> <p>All in all a nice evening of poker and smoking with the boys, until Marge comes home and ruins Homer's fun.</p> <p>Fox is pretty tight on their copyrights and we couldn't find a clip of this one.</p> <p><strong>Krusty's Kwads (BABF17)</strong></p> <p>Here we see Krusty square off against Fat Tony in a game of 5-Card Draw. When he shows down 3-6-T-J-K unsuited he's told it's actually the "Royal Sampler" which wins him the pot.</p> <p>This victory sparks Homer's increasingly disturbing spiritual emptiness, caused by his power making him feel isolated (ated ... ated ... ated.)</p> <p>Again, no clip of this exists that we can find.</p> <p><strong>Bonus Blackjack Clips!</strong></p> <p>Because blackjack is near and dear to the heart of every self-respecting degen we had to include these two scenes.</p><p>This first one features Homer as a dealer, inept as always. Each one of us has a different story and we each live with varying degrees of uncertainty about what will happen next. <BR><BR> Our lives are like books. Each day is like a page and tells our story. Stories unravel in numerous ways and sometimes we neglect to question ourselves about how we are viewing it.<BR><BR> Ask yourself, objectively, who are you in the story of your life?<p>Are you the main character who takes life as it comes? Do you feel more like the narrator telling your own story and going along for the ride?</p><p>Do you take life's highs and lows as random acts of positive or negative events strictly based on ethereal variance?</p><p>Conversely, perhaps you act as though you are the author and dictator of your own destiny and possess a "take life by the horns" type of perspective, not leaving anything to chance. <br /> <br /> Most likely you're a combination of at least two of these, if not all three. It often depends on one's innate demeanor and temperament.</p><p>A naturally passive person will leave more outcomes to chance and attribute positive events to serendipitous forces and see adversity as an unavoidable inevitability of fate.</p> <p>More assertive people would view this as a weakness or a character flaw.</p> <p>They'd argue that life is a buffet with many diners but a limited supply of food. To be successful, you need to be the aggressor. They feel like the author and the main character. <br /> <br /> So how does this relate to poker? Looked at analogously to tournament poker, there are several parallels. Consider for instance the following three categories: playing style, evaluation of success vs. failure, and memory/experience.</p> <p>Just as one's birth represents the beginning of a new story, so too does the first hand dealt in a poker tournament. Whether you bust first or win the whole thing, you will have a first-hand, a final hand, and (almost certainly) lots in between.</p> <p>Everyone involved in the tournament has their "tournament life" on the line from start to end and the goal is to stay alive until the end. It's a curious phenomenon to note how people tend to approach it the same way they do their own life. <br /> <br /> People who are inherently passive may know their game requires a more loose/aggressive style to succeed, but even though they make an effort to play this way, they still lack the natural ability to go against their habits.</p><p>For this reason, poker players who are the most malleable are often the most successful.</p> <p>A stubborn person who refuses to make changes to his/her lifestyle may find their game has leaks that never seem to go away. This type of person fits the mold of 'main character' who thinks he is also the author. He doesn't care what the narrator has to say. In fact, to him, there is no narrator.</p><p>Some players can adjust smoothly to adveristy (i.e. suckout) and execute objective analysis. This type of trait fits the author mold.</p><p>What happened is done and can't be changed. Proceed with confidence, reduce negative emotion. Whether this part of your game is a trouble point or not, it's important to remember the situation and utilize what you've learned the next time you face a similar situation.</p><p>Since the nature of tournament poker is such that on any given day even the worst player can win, these points only hold a certain amount of verity. A stubborn player may win even though in the long run their success rate is likely to show poor results. <br /> <br /> If a player reaches the final table and gets to a heads-up battle, his journey from start to end tells a tale unique to him. His heads-up opponent's journey is no doubt a different story with the same endpoint (up to the heads-up finale). <br /> <br /> The beauty of tournament poker is that no matter how each story ends, there's always another one starting up soon after.</p><p>Make sure to enjoy the ride and make good 'reads' along the way. The criminals, armed with assault rifles, relieved the players in this game of around $11,000, their wallets and their pants (?).<br><br> Players in the game seem to be blaming the host, since he advertised the game on the internet. This past weekend that's exactly what happened at the Key Largo Pirates Fest. <br><br> Apparently someone has organized a festival to give people with the uncontrollable urge to dress like a pirate an opportunity to do so in a looting- and pillaging-free setting. <br><br> We're not sure about the authenticity of this festival given that one of the activities was underwater poker, assisted by scuba gear for all participating pirates. <br><br> Pirates were a gambling group of people but as far as we know they didn't have poker back in the pirate days, or scuba gear for that matter. <br><br> At any rate, here's a video of them playing. To your right is Sami Kelopuro at his most excited, stoked about making a real live EPT final table. This is the happiest we've seen him in years. <br><br> Dario Minieri, Florian Langmann, Gianni Giaroni, Illia Kainov, Michael Lundell, Oleh Okhotskyi, David Steicke and the aforementioned Kelopuro were the only ones to drop the &euro;13,000 to get a seat. <br><br> The action just got going in this event and it's scheduled for three days of play which is probably a bit generous. He made some memorable plays, the first of which was making a big river call for his tournament life on Day 1 with king-high.</p> <p>Winning the tournament was an emotional experience for Phillips which was refreshing to see after so many nonchalant winners. Check out what he had to say about it in <a href='http://www.pokerlistings.com/phillips-dominates-ept-barcelona-43848' class=''>the news piece here.</a></p> <p>It's early going in Warsaw yet but Phillips could have a shot at becoming the first player to win two EPT main events. Sorry, guaranteeing the aces will hold costs another 4,000 points.</p><p><strong>2.</strong> <strong>Two-Outer.</strong> Your opponent just bought his aces vs. kings? On the verge of monkey tilt? Quickly hit the FPP store before the flop comes out and for a mere 12,000 points that two-outer will hit.</p> <p>The benefits are the same as the aces vs. kings item, 100% guaranteed to tilt your opponent! An extra 1,000 points ensures it hits the river for max tilt factor!</p><p></p><p><strong>3.</strong> <strong>The Board Pairing.</strong> Board never pairs when you need it? A paltry 100 FPPs per dollar in the pot and you can fill up by the river!!<br /><br /><strong>4.</strong> <strong>The Boomswitch.</strong> Stuck in a rut? Downswings got you ... well, down? For 100,000 FPPs you can run like god for 10,000 hands. Sorry, can only be used at your current limit.<br /><br /><strong>5.</strong> <strong>Bladder of Steel.</strong> For 50,000 FPPs we can guarantee that you will never have to take a leak in the middle of a session again.</p><p>We all know the pain of having to sit out on 8+ tables. With this one time charge you'll be able to play for hours without having to get out of your chair! No more pissjugs! (sorry leatherass)</p> <p>6. <strong>God Mode vs Shortstackers.</strong> Never lose another all-in confrontation vs a shortstacker again! For 0 FPPs (that's right zero, nobody likes those hit-and-running SOBs anyway) you can finally bust every shortstacker around. (Hey, I said it's items I wish I could buy.)</p> <p><strong>7. A Coin Flip When You Actually Need It.</strong> This is for the tournament players out there.</p><p>Do you win every coin flip vs a 2bb stack but when the big AK vs QQ comes on the final-table bubble you just can't seem to bink? For 8,000 points you can finally win a flip when it matters.</p> <p>There you have it. The sad thing is that 8.9 out of ten kids' dreams of slides go unfulfilled. Phil Galfond has given hope to children worldwide, however, by installing a slide in his living room. <br><br> Maybe his parents used to tell him that the house wasn't a jungle gym and he vowed to prove them wrong. Maybe he needed an escape route from the bedroom and the stairs just didn't cut it.<br><br> Whatever the motivation, the result is sheer awesomeness. Some people might argue the aesthetics of having a giant metal tube coming through the ceiling into your living room but I say to them, "Shut up." <br><br> Galfond is finally doing something worthwhile with his poker winnings. There, I said it. So go ahead and contact all those people in your life that said you'd never amount to anything and that playing online poker was a waste of your life.<br><br> I might be a little narrow in my definition of saving the world but as a blogger on the internet I feel I'm entitled to a certain amount of creative license.<br><br> The fact that you have to play poker is a given, there's no changing that. So, you're presented with two options: Drive to your local casino and use up a bunch of gas in the process, or sit on your couch and play on your computer.<br><br> If you chose the latter I applaud your good judgment and hearty social conscience!
