Celebrated poker author Tom McEvoy got his start in professional poker after he was fired from his accounting job. He first learned the game playing penny-ante with his grandmother at the age of five, but he broadened his repertoire when he went pro in 1979. At that time, he moved to Las Vegas and starting playing all limits and variations and eventually became a tournament specialist.

In 1983 he took home his first WSOP bracelet in Limit Hold’em and followed it up by winning the No-Limit Hold’em Main Event just six days later. In 1986 he took the Razz title and another in Limit Omaha in 1992, when he defeated his old friend Berry Johnston heads-up for the bracelet.

In total, Tom has 18 other WSOP final-table finishes and boasts a respectable 27 WSOP cashes. He has also won a WPT Championship title and has cashed in dozens of other WPT and unaffiliated poker tournaments.

In addition to live tournaments Tom also plays online as a member of Team PokerStars. There he can be found bellying up to the tables under his own name alongside fellow legends Humberto Brenes, Joseph Hachem, Hevad “RaiNKhaN” Khan and Vanessa Rousso.

Tom has published six poker books covering a wide variety of subjects and games, such as money management, general strategy, starting hands and reading players. Several of the books were co-written with famed poker player T.J. Cloutier, himself the winner of multiple WSOP bracelets in several different poker variations.

Outside of poker, Tom spends time playing backgammon, collecting stamps, watching movies, reading books, studying history and enjoying fine dining.
